If we’re strictly talking in software engineering jobs then Yes, AI will be doing most of the current jobs. but they are not going to do that on their own, people will still be their to operate, give command, analyse and check the work of it.
Even if Devin is not what it first appeared to be but what makes you think that it won’t be a possibility in next 2 years? just after one year release of chatGPT we got SORA, making realistic videos and movies!
If you start analysing then you will see all the stuff where you are copy pasting – html, css, JS code or finding method, class, plugin, package name for your code, or finding other method of doing a particular thing, this all can be easily done by any AI tool… So if you are doing only this much in your job then you need level up now because even current AI can do all this.
Now question is for writing some logical code or creating APIs etc, in next 10 years machines won’t be able to do all this? it definitely will!
So what you are going to do? make those AI machines/programs to write that code obviously, That’s why learning AI, Prompt engineering, Generative AI are among the hottest skills now. learn this and again you will be eligible in market for another decade.
Some common sense… can’t AI create more AI programs which can do all this stuff. No because we don’t want to give control to this AI program which can have their own brain, more accurately we don’t want to loose control. (you have watched Terminator right😉).
Companies have already started hiring Prompt and Generative AI engineers on great scale.
If you graduated more than 3 years back then there are huge chance that what you studied is even not going to be relevant in next 2 years.
You can start exploring AI, it is not going anywhere now.
